On the east side of South Court Street, just south of Medina Public Square, sits the Asire Building. It dates from 1873, constructed after the Great Fire that destroyed nearly all of the Public Square. This building combines all of the elements of the best structures that grace Medina Public Square: the long, narrow, arching windows; the intricate woodcraft at the peak; and the beautiful brickwork - mimicking four supporting columns across the front of the three story commercial address.

The next series of buildings I will photograph are not on Medina Square proper. Just south of the Square, on South Court Street stand a series of turn of the century commercial brick buildings. I start with this blue painted two story to show that, while interesting, the condition of these buildings is not up to the standard of those found on the Square.

Dan's Dogs, a local diner, was open for those hungry after the Ice Festival.

Because the grass area in the Square is fenced off due to construction, the ice carvings were created in the alley behind the west leg of Medina Public Square. The back ends of these buildings featured the best natural ice accumulation.

Between the Marco Building and the Reinhart Building sits the Town Hall and Firehouse. Used as a working volunteer firehouse until very recently, this bright red building is now a community meeting hall.

This is a close-up of the beautiful brickwork and mauve paint that decorates the Munson Building. Note the pigeon deflectors above the Munson nameplate.

Here's the Munson Building construted in 1879. The crown and the diamond pole atop the building makes this a very unique building. Note again the tall narrow windows and scrolling above each.

Here you see the date of the H.G. Blake building construction, 1870, the earliest construction date on any building on the Square. The great fire destroyed nearly all of the buildings on the Square in 1870. The Phoenix rose from the ashes.

This is the H.G. Blake building, the home of the Old Phoenix National Bank. It is the most westerly building on the south leg of Medina Public Square.
